It is said that 口 from 右 represents a prayer recited by a priest, and エ from 左 is a table that he lays the prayer on.

Note that ノ of 右 is slightly shorter than ノ of 左, and 一 of 右 is a little longer than that of 左.

ノ of 左 is actually the left arm, so it's longer. On the other hand, ノ of 右 is the hand part, so it's shorter.

Besides, ノ is the first stroke of 右, and 一 is the first stroke of 左 (in Japan).
