町 originally represented a T-shaped path between rice fields (田), but it came to mean streets in a town, and then the town itself as well.

- 私のいとこは北海道旭川市の神居町に住んでいます。
- My cousin lives at Kamui-chou (the section called Kamui-chou) in Asahikawa, Hokkaido.
